Ordinary to Extraordinary

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 1 Corinthians 3:6

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. Albert Einstein

Extraordinary. Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, quaint chalets nestled in the slopes of the Swiss Alps, the Holy Lands, meeting our nation's President, a famous entertainer or actor. Extraordinary. Think about your life- now or in the past. What places have you traveled, things have you experienced, people have you met that were just nothing but extraordinary?

I have learned that I don't have to travel far or meet famous people to be touched by the extraordinary. Several years ago, I planted my first garden. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to have the potential for strawberries, tomatoes, and green beans! I planted, watered and weeded. I think I was a little surprised, more accurately amazed, when weeks later I saw little green shoots breaking through the surface of the soil. I remember thinking about how awesome God was that He could bring life from those little seeds I had planted.

C.S. Lewis said it well, "I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." With Jesus Christ I have seen the extraordinary in the ordinary. Just like the garden, I have seen His hand prints in the sunrise and sunset, the birds, sweet and tender moments with my sons, the beautiful countryside I live in, friendships, laughter, the smell of cut grass, a thunderstorm. I have come to learn that the events of the day, no matter how ordinary, are extraordinary with Jesus. You and I are both so ordinary and yet Jesus, because of what He has done for us, now calls us extraordinary.

Where can you see the extraordinary in your ordinary? Change your perspective and begin to look for His signature in your everyday.

Lord, touch my eyes so that I may see. Give me your perspective in all situations because You have gifted me with so many things I take for granted. You truly are Extraordinary. Amen.
